Zinedine Zindane

Voted the best European footballer of the past 50 years by UEFA, Zidane was France’s premier World Cup player in 1998, 2002 and 2006, leading Les Bleus to a surprising 3-0 victory against Brazil in 1998 with two goals. Zidane has won the FIFA World Player of the Year three times, something only Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have achieved, and the Ballon d'Or once. He was Ligue 1 Player of the Year in 1996, Series A Footballer of the Year in 2001 and La Liga Best Foreign Player in 2002. He retired from professional football after the 2006 World Cup, where he received the Golden Ball as Player of the tournament.
