10 True Horror Stories Worthy of a Movie

Hollywood loves a good story, especially horror stories it can fictionalize and bring to the silver screen. Hollywood’s repertoire is full of stories lifted straight out of reality: Norman Bates from Psycho; Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs; Leatherface from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre films; Ezra Cobb of the film Deranged; Bloody Face from the second season of the TV series American Horror Story; Eddie Gluskin of the video game Outlast. They were all based on the notorious killer Ed Gein. If Gein could have collected royalties from those films, he would have been a rich man. Thomas Harris, the creator of Hannibal Lecter, used several serial killers to build his character, including the Monster of Florence and a Mexican doctor named Alfredo Ballí Treviño to great effect. Fact is stranger than fiction, and here are our picks of true horror stories in search of a movie.
