Japanese Giant Hornet | The Top 10 Hair-Raising Insects

Japanese Giant Hornet

At 1.8 inches long, a wingspan of 2.5 inches and a bad temper, the Japanese Giant Hornet is definitely a formidable insect. A single Giant Hornet can brutally kill and dismember 40 honey bees in a minute, while a group of 30 hornets can kill and destroy a hive of 30,000 honey bees in 3 hours. They leave pheromone markers outside a hive they want to attack to attract the rest of the hornets and begin the killing spree. Although they don’t normally attack humans unless threatened, they do kill an average of 40 people in Japan a year.
